Thomas D. Rotenberg:
Transcending Physical Forms
American artist Thomas D. Rotenberg’s short films and videos have been a strong and consistent presence in the (barely) underground art scene for the past 10 years. His methods concerning color and use of digital media contrasts with a very human and “gothic” perspective. Within these parameters, a slightly dark mirror reflects fragments of varying layers of the collective consciousness. All of this is then wrapped into slightly abstract stories which offer access to varying viewpoints and realities.
The Brooklyn-based Rotenberg has been a regular contributor to the “Digital Fairy Tales” series (2016-present), created music videos for artists across the US, and recently been creating large-scale projection mapping installations. His narrative short film “Don’t Forget to Remember,” serves as an entry point into a larger, more story-focused world while maintaining a distinct visual style that represents the clearest distillation of his vision to date. These works and others will be on display at Levels Gallery in Berlin, with past installations and screenings at Green-Wood Cemetery, SOHO International Film Festival, Lighthouse International Film Festival, DELETE TV, Spectacle Theater, and the Garner Arts Center, amongst others.
Besides creating his own work, Thomas has been a strong supporter and community builder in the short film and video art worlds. His work managing and programming the technical aspects of Brooklyn’s Made in NY Media Center by IFP (2013-2020), along with his technical management of the LIGHT YEAR projection art series (2015-2023), have helped bring the work of 1000+ artists and creatives into public view.
The collaborative spirit continues with an additional exhibition score provided by Josh Graham.
Thomas D. Rotenberg will attend the opening event on Saturday, January 13th, 2024.
